Following the success of its first edition, the Akida Film Festival returns to Seville from September 16 to 21 with screenings at Avenida 5 Cines, new features, and distinguished guests such as Los Compadres and Susana Córdoba.
The Akida International Film Festival was founded by two 16-year-olds, Nick Kremm and Dimitris Pontikakis Batana, in 2022. A few months later, in September 2023, the festival's first edition took place.
After a successful debut, this year's festival will feature esteemed professionals like Patricia Ortega, director of "Mamacruz," and Susana Córdoba, actress in the series "El Príncipe" and "El Ministerio del Tiempo." They will present the awards gala on September 20 at the historic Cine Cervantes following numerous screenings throughout the week from September 16 to 19 at Avenida 5 Cines.
The first edition was a great success in terms of short film submissions. Out of a total of 600 submitted, 51 were selected, and 47 were chosen for official screenings at the cinema. This year, over 3,500 submissions have been received, with 46 selected for screening. These include representatives from classic genres such as drama, comedy, suspense, as well as opportunities for young filmmakers, students, and shorts made in Seville. In addition to the eight awards from last year, new categories will be introduced, to be announced soon.
Recognized actors and actresses such as Omar Ayuso, Cristina Alcázar, Ingrid García-Jonsson, Ana Polvorosa, and Ana Torrent will feature in some of these shorts, including several nominated for the Goya Awards.
In the previous edition, 20 countries participated in the festival. This year, 114 countries have registered, reflecting the significant expansion of the Akida Film Festival, which is becoming a highly respected film festival in the city of Seville and gaining support from film professionals and experts worldwide.
